Chef’s Envy

Does it work? Yup

The Chef's Envy mandolin slicer is good for soups or salads where there is a lot of slicing to be done.  And since I am unskilled this area; it has been a big help.  It works for the vegetables I have tried, such as carrots, onions, cumbers, tomato, and potatoes; and even some small chili peppers.  I have had no major problems with it’s use.

The cons, besides cleaning the device, I assume the blade will eventually get dull. And as always, since everyone is entitled to my opinion - my suggestion would be to make the blade replaceable. At 35 dollars, they maybe could even throw in an extra blade.

As a side note, I do have a question- and maybe it's just TV, but why don't we see more chefs use a mandolin slicer more often. I normally don't see chefs us any other slicer than a knife.

I just bought one of these myself and so far I'm enjoying it. I particularly like being able to use it for celery as there's no need to separate the stalks. Slicing thicker items such as onions and apples seems to be a bit tougher, but I might just have to get used to it better (any hints?). Cleaning hasn't been a problem for me thus far. I've just rinsed it, though I'm sure a brush of some sort would be helpful for cleaning after cutting certain foods.

The person who explained the thing told me that they will replace dull blades, and even find a nearby location for an exchange to avoid shipping and handling if possible. Don't know if that will pan out or not, but I'm hopeful.

DO NOT BUY THE CHEF ENVY! I JUST ABOUT CUT MY FINGER OFF TRYING TO USE IT. I WILL BE RETURNING IT TO MY KROGER STORE TOMORROW AND HOPE THEY TELL ME I CAN'T.... I WILL STAND IN THE STORE WHEN THEY ANNOUNCE "GET YOUR FREE GIFT" AND TELL PEOPLE IT NOT WORTH IT.. NOTHING IS WORSE THAN BUYING SOMETHING THAT COULD TAKE YOUR FINGERS OFF! THIS PRODUCT IS DANGEROUS! I ONLY CUT PART OF MY FINGER, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED! SAVE YOUR FINGERS....

You must not enjoy watching the many cooking shows on TV. A mandolin is a tool that is frequently used on all of the shows! They make work fly by!

And if you cut your finger, well duh! follow the instruction. A plain old dull paring knife can cut you if not used correctly. Some people should not use sharp things. Buy your food processed.

MJ, if you used it as you were told there would have been no danger, plus if you looking foward to causing problems in the store you seem to like trouble. I bought mine last week and love it, it does everything they said it would!!!!!
